English Students

Curiculum

The New Zealand English Curriculum has five main strands:

reading, writing, listening, speaking and thinking critically.

We recognise that the individual needs of students differ. We provide for these in a number of ways.

Academic Extension

  • Year 10 students are given the opportunity to achieve Achievement Standard 1.9 Research and /or may be selected to sit for other achievement standards in which they have demonstrated an excellent level of achievement.
  • Year 11 students selected by English staff for literature extension class in term 2
  • Opportunity to sit English Scholarship for students who have exhibited outstanding achievement in English
  • Australasian English Examination
  • Australasian Writing Examination
  • The English Department Cup for Excellence in Creative Writing (Yrs 11-13)
  • The English Department Writing Shield for Excellence in Creative Writing (Yrs 9 & 10)

Cultural Extension in the Performing Language Arts - Drama
