MISSION STATEMENT for CHANEL COLLEGEThe College community shall provide a climate of learning that aims for excellence in education, respect for each other and witnessing to the values of Jesus Christ.
Chanel College, following the traditions of our Catholic heritage, emphasises:
The College seeks to build and develop a warm and caring community spirit among its students, staff, Board of Trustees, parents, former students and the wider Catholic community. This embraces the idea of a special concern for the less favoured.
The College follows the National Religious Education Syllabus approved by the Bishops of New Zealand. Through the Religious Education programme, through daily prayer, liturgy and retreats, and through co-operation with the Catholic parishes of the Wairarapa, the College seeks to develop an understanding of the truth of the Catholic faith and a practical living out of compassion, justice, forgiveness and the other Christian virtues.

The College has a tradition of excellence. The core subjects are taught at all levels and a wide variety of optional subjects are available. Students are prepared for National Examinations and the College is accredited to provide Unit Standards for the National Qualifications Framework. The aim of all education at Chanel is to develop potential and educate the ‘whole person’ according to the student’s abilities and needs.
The wharenui “Hinerangi” is considered the cultural centre of the College and opportunities are provided for all to develop an understanding of, and involvement in, the culture of the Tangata Whenua. Participation in drama and sport are encouraged and students represent their school in a wide variety of team sports. Community service activities are also encouraged.
